The fastest way to reach Nashik from Mumbai is via the Mumbai-Nashik Expressway (NH-3), which covers 170 km in approximately 3 to 4 hours by car or bus. From Pune, take the Pune-Nashik Highway (NH-60), covering 210 km in about 4 to 5 hours. By train, the Panchavati Express from Mumbai CSMT to Nashik Road station takes approximately 3.5 hours.

With an estimated 100 million pilgrims expected at the Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027, the biggest challenge is not the spiritual journey — it is the physical one. During peak Shahi Snan dates, the highways leading to Nashik will be gridlocked. This guide covers every possible route so you can choose the smartest way in.

Route 1: Mumbai to Nashik (170 km)

By Car / Self-Drive

• Route: Mumbai → Eastern Express Highway → NH-3 (Mumbai-Agra Highway) → Kasara Ghat → Igatpuri → Nashik
• Distance: 170 km | Time: 3 to 4 hours (non-peak)
• Toll Cost: Approximately ₹350 to ₹500 (one way)
• Fuel Cost: Approximately ₹1,200 to ₹1,500 (one way, petrol car)

Insider Warning: During Shahi Snan weekends, the Kasara Ghat section becomes a nightmare. Vehicles crawl for hours through the single-lane mountain pass. If you must drive, leave Mumbai before 3:00 AM to cross the Ghat before sunrise. Alternatively, consider the new Samruddhi Mahamarg (Nagpur-Mumbai Expressway) which has an exit near Sinnar — it is longer (200 km) but the 6-lane highway with no ghats means faster travel times.

By Train (Best Option)

For the Kumbh Mela, the government plans to expand operations. However, most domestic travelers will find it cheaper and faster to fly into Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) and take a train or bus to Nashik.

From Other Cities: Travelers from Delhi, Kolkata, Chennai, or Bangalore should fly to Mumbai and connect via train or bus. Rajasthan and Gujarat travelers can also use the Ahmedabad-Nashik route via the Samruddhi Expressway.

Getting Around Inside Nashik During Kumbh
