Nashik Kumbh Mela 2027: Special Trains and Railway Guide

Indian Railways will operate over 300 "Kumbh Special" trains connecting Nashik Road to major cities across India. To secure a confirmed seat, you must book exactly 120 days before your travel date on the IRCTC portal.

Traveling by train is the most popular way to reach the Nashik Kumbh Mela. However, with an estimated 100 million people attending over the year, the railway infrastructure will be pushed to its absolute limits. Here is your ultimate guide to securing your tickets and navigating the stations.

1. The 120-Day Rule

Normal train tickets in India open for booking 120 days in advance at 8:00 AM IST. For the Shahi Snan dates (which fall in August and September 2027), tickets will sell out within exactly 2 minutes of opening. You must have your IRCTC account funded, passenger details pre-saved in the Master List, and be ready to book the moment the window opens.

2. Kumbh Special Trains (Unreserved & Reserved)

To handle the massive influx, the Central Railway zone will announce "Kumbh Special" trains approximately 30 to 45 days before the festival begins. These trains are usually categorized into:

• Fully Unreserved (General) Trains: Designed for mass transit from neighboring states like UP, Bihar, and MP. You can buy tickets directly at the station, but be prepared for extreme crowding.
• Special AC/Sleeper Expresses: These will require prior booking. Fares for special trains are often marked up by 30% under the 'Tatkal' or 'Premium' pricing model.

3. Navigating Nashik Road Station

During the Mela, Nashik Road Station transforms into a fortress. The authorities will construct massive temporary waiting halls (holding areas) outside the station capable of holding 50,000 people.
